At SG Car Services, we have the pleasure of working around one of the most beautiful nature reserves in Singapore. It’s easy to forget how little things that we do or the way we drive can affect the environment around us. So, in celebration of Earth Day, we thought we would give our top 5 tips for being an Eco-Friendly driver.
Replace Your Car's Air Filters Frequently. Regularly checking and replacing dirty air filters helps to improve your vehicle’s gas mileage by as much as 10 percent.
Check your Vehicle’s Tire Pressure. Regularly checking that your car's tires are sufficiently inflated improves your car’s gas mileage, and also increases safety.
Regulate Your Speed! Frequent acceleration and braking uses up more of the gas in your car’s tank. When driving long distances on the highway, try using your cars ‘eco’ button or taking advantage of cruise control. This regulates and maintains your speed and decreases the need for braking and accelerating. Try to drive below 80-90km/h as gas mileage declines rapidly above that.
Enjoy some fresh air! Use your cars air conditioning when you really need it! We get that Singapore can get really hot, try to install window shades or tinted screens to reduce the sunlight and heat that gets through.
Carpool whenever possible! Find a friend or colleague who is going the same way and take turns to share the drive. This saves everyone money on gas and limits the amount of cars and emissions on the road. It’s a win-win for everyone because we all know that less cars means less traffic to get stuck in :)
Let's do our part to save the earth together, one gas mileage at a time :)
